The Bobcat Cry
May 1, 2009 [Issue #29]
VERSE OF THE MONTH:
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you have been bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
SCRIP ORDERS:
The scrip program had a solid week earning just under $160. Gift cards make a great gift for graduations, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. Best of all, 50% of the profit will be credited back to your tuition account. Please have your orders turned in by 10 a.m. each Monday. There is a scrip order form attached to this week’s packet. For a list containing all the scrip retailers, please visit www.glscrip.com.
PROGRESS REPORTS:
Progress reports for the fourth quarter were sent home today with each of the students. The grades indicate the work your child has done through the first half of this quarter. It is hard to believe that there are only three weeks remaining in the fourth quarter. Encourage your child to finish the year strong. Please sign and return the progress report by Tuesday, May 5.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:
Next week is the nationally recognized Teacher Appreciation Week. Please take the time to write a simple thank-you note or purchase a small gift for your child’s teacher expressing the gratitude you feel for the job they have done. MBS is very fortunate to have such a professional and dedicated staff. Make sure you let them know you appreciate all they do for your child.
VACATION STATIONS:
MBS is pleased to once again offer our school family the opportunity to purchase Vacation Stations. The Vacation Stations are workbooks intended for elementary students to use during the summer months to help them transition to the next grade. The workbooks are designed to reinforce the basic principles of math, language, and reading. The workbooks and a sign-up sheet are located in the school foyer next to Faith’s desk. The cost for each Vacation Station is $22. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
SPRING PICTURES:
Spring Pictures were sent home today with each of the students. If you do not wish to order any of your child’s pictures then you do not need to do anything. If you wish to order one of the picture packets, please follow the directions on the back of your child’s proof. Those wishing to place an order will need to have their envelopes turned in by Monday, May 11.
MONTHLY CALENDAR:
The calendar for the month of May is attached to today’s packet. Please pay special attention to the dates for both graduations and the secondary awards night. Elementary students are required to attend the Kindergarten Graduation and secondary students are required to attend the secondary awards night and the senior commencement.
GOLF PRACTICE:
Those interested in participating on the MBS golf team will need to bring their golf clubs and $25 with them to school on Monday. The team will begin practicing at the Pictured Rocks Golf Course in preparation for our tournament on May 19. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Franklin.
SCIENCE FAIR:
It was encouraging to see so many of you give of your time to make it out to the MBS Science Fair this past Tuesday. The students did a terrific job with their experiments and presentations. It was obvious that each student put a great deal of time and effort into his project. Thank you again for coming out to support the students. The following individuals were awarded top honors by the judges.
| 5th - 7th Grades | 8th - 12th Grades |
| 1. Jaylyn LaFlamme | 1. Andrew Johns |
| 2. Emily Kent | 2. Peter Vertin |
| 3. Madison Sadler | 3. Daniel MacArthur |
WINTER SNOW GEAR:
All winter snow gear not taken home today will be placed in lost & found. Each item will cost the students $.50 to have it returned to them.
DRIVERS EDUCATION:
Those interested in taking a Drivers Education course this spring need to contact Mr. Marvin Maki at 630-8210. The course is scheduled to begin May 10.
RE-ENROLLMENT PACKETS:
Let me encourage you to fill out your re-enrollment packet and get it turned in as soon as possible. Remember you only have to turn in the paperwork right now. The re-enrollment fee is not due until June 15. MBS has been getting calls from outside families wishing to enroll their children, but it is hard to plan since there are so many current families that have yet to return their forms. Don’t forget that new kindergarten students will need to fill out different paperwork than what was sent home. If you are wishing to enroll a student into next fall’s kindergarten class, please stop by the office and pick up the appropriate forms. If you are not planning to re-enroll your child at MBS next fall for whatever reason, please let the office know so the board can plan accordingly. Thank you for your help.
